For much of my working life, I believed money was the destination. Like many people, I thought earning more would solve most of life's problems. Looking back, I realise I had it backwards. Money was never the goal. It was simply the result of something much deeper: creating value.
After losing my business during the Global Financial Crisis, I was forced to question everything I believed about success, wealth and the financial system. That difficult period became the turning point that eventually led me to blockchain, cryptocurrency and decentralised finance. But before any of that made sense, I first had to understand what money really is.
Money isn't wealth. It's simply a medium of exchange, a way of transferring value from one person to another. Every time you solve a problem, help someone achieve a goal or improve another person's life, you create value. Money is simply the reward for that contribution.
Once you understand this, your mindset begins to change. Instead of asking, "How can I make more money?" you begin asking, "How can I become more valuable?" That single shift can transform the way you approach work, business and investing.
Why chasing money doesn't work
One of the biggest mistakes people make is putting money on a pedestal. We choose careers we don't enjoy, stay in jobs that drain us and make decisions based on fear because we believe money is the ultimate prize.
Ironically, the harder we chase money, the more it seems to slip away.
I've experienced this myself. There were times when I worked incredibly hard yet made very little financial progress. Eventually I realised I was focused on the effect instead of the cause.
Money is the effect.
Value is the cause.
When you concentrate on creating genuine value for others, money often follows naturally. That doesn't mean wealth appears overnight, but it does mean you're building a stronger and more sustainable foundation.
Wealth begins with authenticity
Real wealth isn't something you collect; it's something you create.
Each of us has unique experiences, skills and perspectives. The challenge isn't becoming someone else. It's becoming more authentically yourself.
After leaving the corporate world, I followed my curiosity into natural health, aromatherapy and holistic living. Those interests eventually led me to build successful businesses because they were aligned with my values. I wasn't trying to convince people to buy something they didn't need. I simply shared what I genuinely believed could improve their lives.
People recognise authenticity, and they trust it.
That's one of the greatest lessons I've learned: when your work comes from purpose rather than pressure, creating value becomes much easier.
Hard work isn't enough
We've all been taught that if we work hard enough, we'll become wealthy.
I don't believe that's true.
Hard work certainly matters, but effort alone doesn't determine your financial future. If it did, every person working long physical hours would be financially free.
Instead, wealth comes from the value you create and the problems you solve.
The people who build lasting wealth eventually move beyond simply exchanging time for money. They create assets, systems, businesses or investments that continue producing value long after the initial work has been completed.
That's one of the reasons blockchain technology is so exciting. It opens the door to entirely new ways of creating, sharing and exchanging value.
Why blockchain matters
When I first heard about Bitcoin, I dismissed it. Like many people, I thought it sounded unrealistic.
But as I researched further, I realised blockchain wasn't just about creating another currency. It represented a new way of thinking about ownership, trust and decentralisation.
Today, most money already exists as numbers inside banking systems. Digital assets are simply the next stage in that evolution.
Blockchain gives people the opportunity to exchange value directly, participate in decentralised networks and gain access to opportunities that were previously unavailable to ordinary individuals.
Of course, education is essential. Every emerging industry attracts bad actors and empty promises. That's why understanding the technology is far more important than reacting to headlines or social media opinions.
Knowledge allows you to separate genuine innovation from hype.
Becoming a wealth creator
One of the biggest changes in my own life happened when I stopped asking how to make money and started asking how to create more value.
That shift transformed everything.
Instead of chasing opportunities purely for financial gain, I focused on learning, serving others and becoming better at what I do. As my knowledge and contribution grew, so did the opportunities around me.
I often say it's better to become a wealth creator than a money chaser.
When you invest in yourself, improve your skills, strengthen your character and genuinely help other people, you naturally become more valuable to the marketplace. Money becomes the by-product of that value, not the objective.
Preparing for the future
We're living through one of the biggest financial transitions in history. Blockchain, cryptocurrency and decentralised finance are reshaping how value is stored, exchanged and invested.
Whether you choose to participate or not, understanding these changes will become increasingly important.
But technology alone isn't the answer.
The real opportunity lies in developing the mindset to thrive in this new world. Stay curious. Keep learning. Focus on solving problems and creating value for others.
Money is an important tool, but it should never become our purpose.
Purpose creates value.
Value creates wealth.
If you focus on becoming someone who consistently serves others, solves meaningful problems and remains authentic, financial abundance becomes a natural outcome rather than something you constantly chase.
That's the future I believe we're moving towards, and it's a future where education, community and conscious participation matter more than ever.
You now know something most people don't. Use it wisely.
